Lakadong turmeric is grown exclusively in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya in northeast India. The specific soil chemistry, rainfall pattern, and elevation of this region produce the highest naturally occurring curcumin concentration in turmeric found anywhere. The variety takes its name from Lakadong village, where cultivation is concentrated.
The agronomic conditions of the Jaintia Hills are the reason the curcumin numbers are what they are. Iron-rich laterite soil, monsoon-fed rainfall pattern, single annual harvest cycle, and traditional cultivation without synthetic inputs combine to produce a curcumin profile that no other turmeric variety can replicate.
Lakadong Turmeric holds a registered Geographical Indication (GI) tag under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999. It is the only Indian turmeric variety with origin protection. The GI tag legally restricts the "Lakadong" name to turmeric grown within the Jaintia Hills region. Selling turmeric grown elsewhere as "Lakadong" is an infringement under the Act.

Arka Veda Source focuses on one product. Most Indian suppliers cannot tell you which valley their turmeric came from, what curcumin range to expect, or what documentation will accompany the shipment. We can, because we work only with Lakadong Turmeric from the Jaintia Hills.

Lakadong Turmeric is a specific variety grown exclusively in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, northeast India. It is the highest curcumin turmeric variety in the world, with typical curcumin content of 6.8–12% by HPLC, compared to 2–3% in standard Indian turmeric. It holds GI Registration No. 741, restricting the Lakadong name to turmeric grown within the Jaintia Hills region.
Lakadong Turmeric contains 6.8–12% curcumin by HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography). This is 3–4 times higher than standard Indian turmeric, which typically contains 2–3% curcumin. Every export lot is tested at an NABL-accredited third-party laboratory before dispatch.
Lakadong contains 6.8-12% curcumin versus 2-3% in standard Indian turmeric. That is 3 to 4 times the potency. It is the only Indian turmeric variety with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, meaning its origin is legally protected and verified. Standard Indian turmeric has no origin protection and no guaranteed curcumin floor.
Grown exclusively in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, northeast India. The region's iron-rich laterite soil, annual rainfall of 3,500–7,500 mm, and elevation of 600–1,500 metres produce the curcumin concentration the variety is known for. Cultivation is by tribal cooperative farming with no synthetic inputs and a single annual harvest between November and January.
Lakadong Turmeric holds GI Registration No. 741, issued by the Geographical Indications Registry of India. Publicly declared 30 March 2024, Journal No. 185, Part 1. The iron-rich laterite soil of Jaintia Hills is the primary driver. Iron availability promotes curcuminoid biosynthesis in the turmeric rhizome. Combined with high annual rainfall (3,500-7,500 mm), elevation (600-1,500 m), and a single annual harvest with no synthetic inputs, these conditions produce curcumin levels no other turmeric-growing region has replicated consistently.
